1、be used to do意为“被用来做某事”，表示被动意义。

The article can be used to stimulate discussion among students.

Computer software can be used to simulate conditions on the seabed.

The grill can't be used to cook the steaks.

2、be used to sth可变形为get used to sth：习惯做某事，指习惯于、适应于常见形式为：be/get used to +名词/ doing:

He is used to hard work. 

他习惯于艰苦的工作。

We're used to the noise from the traffic now.

现在我们已经适应车辆往来的噪音了。

I'm used to getting up early.

我习惯早起。

3、used to do意思是“过去”经常、常常做某事。

这里的used是作为动词使用，在句中充当谓语成分，是use的一般过去时。to为不定式符号，后接动词原形 do。我们用它谈论过去的习惯或重复的行为（而现在没有这样做了），表达了一种过去的常态。

I used to have long hair （but now I have short hair）。
