another的词性比较多，既可以做形容词，表示再加一个的；另一的，不同的；另一类似的。也可以做代词，表示又一个，再一个。除此之外，还可以做连词，表示（同类的）另一，又一；（不同类的）另外一个，其他一个。

another+数词=数词+more，表示再增加一定的数量，意思是“再、又、还”。

例句：

He ate another two cakes. 

=He ate two more cakes.

1、不定代词other相当于名词或形容词，可以在句中作主语、宾语、定语等。相当于名词时，有复数形式others。

例如：

作定语：

3、对比other与another：

（1）the other 用于两者中的另一个，another 指三者以上中的另一个。

例如：

（2）another 还有 “再……” 的意思，other 有 “另外” 的含义。

（3）修饰数词的结构不同：数词+other+复数名词= another+数词+复数名词。

例如：

（4）one another与 each other：两者均表示“彼此”、“互相”。

一般认为，each other 用于两者间，one another 用于三者或以上，但在现代英语中，两者常可换用。

例如：

We should always help each other.

我们应该互相帮助。

They don’t agree with one another.

他们之间互不同意。

注意：other表泛指，the other表特指，与其复数others和the others 同理。
